The 38th  Annual Work Skills Day was held Feb. 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church, North Branch.  Fifty-Six 11th and 12th grade students enrolled in Employability Skills Seminar classes from North Branch, Chisago Lakes and Rush City high schools competed in Job Applications, Job Interviewing and Job Problem Solving. An on-line application event was tried this year for the first time.

This event is a “real life” demonstration of skills students have learned in the classroom over the past few months. Having the educational community partnering together with the local business community is a huge benefit for these Chisago County students. The Chisago County Work Experience Coordinators, Janelle McNally, North Branch, Mickelle Pohlman, Chisago Lakes, Linda Lindeman, Rush City, worked together to plan the event, with support from SCRED, St. Croix River Education District.  

Anne B. Friedrich of East Bethel, Minn., was one of 23 students from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, to perform with the Colby College Chamber Choir and Colby String Quartet in Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall Monday, March 9. 

Friedrich, a member of the Class of 2015, is an anthropology and religious studies major. She is the daughter of Michael and Cheri Friedrich of East Bethel, Minn., and attended Meadow Creek Christian School.

Lacey Butler, 13, of Isanti, has been chosen as a State Finalist in the National American Miss Minnesota Pageant to be held June 20-21 at the Doubletree Hotel in Bloomington, Minn. The National American Miss pageants are for girls ages 4-18. Lacey will be participating in the Jr. Teen division. The winner of state pageant will advance to the National Pageant in California. 

Kelley Elisabeth Werner, of Harris, has achieved academic ranking in the top 2 percent of students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University. Werner is a senior.
