Celebrate Isanti is a full day of free events planned for Saturday, Aug. 17, throughout the city of Isanti to celebrate the residents, businesses and organizations that call the city home.
The day-long event is now in its third year after then-mayor George Wimmer declared the city would put on its own celebration following the cancellation of the “Two Cities, One Community” event, which was a combined effort between Cambridge and Isanti.
Participants can check-in at 8 a.m. for the untimed family bike ride at the “park & ride” at Main Street South and 40th Avenue SW, Cambridge. The ride begins at 8:30 a.m. and will follow the Cambridge-Isanti Bike/Walk Trail, finishing at Bluebird Park, 201 Isanti Parkway NW, Isanti.
A 5K run/walk will begin at 8:45 a.m. at the park & ride and end in Bluebird Park. Check in at 8 a.m. at the park & ride.
There’s no charge to participate in these two events, but registration is required at http://www.andersonraces.com/new-events/2019/8/17/celebrate-isanti-5k-family-bike-ride-and-runwalk. A link is also available on the city’s website at www.cityofisanti.us.
The first 50 entrants in the bike ride will receive a free gift. A free shuttle will bring participants back to the park & ride.
A Kids’ Festival will follow in Bluebird Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with an obstacle bounce house, a chance to look at Public Works and public safety vehicles and meet police, fire and sheriff’s personnel. Isanti Public Works will display snowplow blades featuring artwork by Isanti students.
The Rum River Rods Summer Spectacular car show will line the streets in downtown Isanti from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include food and craft vendors, a raffle, a pie-eating contest, muffler rap contest and more.
A street dance with music by Good for Gary will run from 7-11 p.m. with food and beer sales on site at the corner of 1st Avenue and Main Street.
Onstage at 7 p.m. the drawing will be held for the grand prize in the “Passport to Parks” contest. Entrants must be present to win.
