The fifth annual Lawrence Welk Variety Show will be held on Friday, Sept. 20, and Saturday, Sept. 21, at the SAC’s Enrichment Center, 140 Buchanan St. N, Cambridge, with live music, skits and dinner. The event replicates the classic TV show that showcased singing groups, big bands and instrumentalists.
Previous years’ shows have included performances by Dolly Fairchild as the Champagne Lady, Lynn Wedlund’s East Central Grad Band, Kenny Krona, Primetime Singers and the Abrahamson Sisters.
Longtime CIHS theater director Bruce Danielson will portray Lawrence Welk and Ole Olson, and act as emcee.
Doors open at 4:30 p.m., meal at 5 p.m., and the show starts at 6 p.m. The audience will have an opportunity to get up and dance with one another and with Mr. Welk.
The dinner at both performances will include barbecued ribs with twice-baked potato, salad, relish tray, bread basket, peat butter up delight, punch and coffee.
The stage will be set in the City Center Mall in the hallway immediately behind SAC’s. Seating is limited and is general admission, so come early for the best seats.
Tickets cost $20, and can be reserved by stopping at SAC’s on weekdays during lunch hours or by calling SAC’s at (763) 689-6555 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
Proceeds will go to buy lightweight tables for SAC’s Activity Room.
