The North Branch fire department lost one of their own last weekend as active firefighter Tony Rollins died in a single-car crash early Sunday morning.
According to the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office incident report, at about 5:10 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, Rollins’ pick-up truck was traveling southbound on Forest Boulevard just north of Harris when it left the roadway, entered the east ditch and rolled multiple times. Rollins was declared dead at the scene.
Rollins was not on duty at the time of the crash. The exact cause is still being investigated by the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office and the MN State Patrol Reconstruction team.
Rollins was a 10-year member of the North Branch fire department and was currently serving as their safety captain.
Rollins’ body was escorted back to North Branch from the medical examiner by local first responders on Monday afternoon. Representatives from area fire departments, law enforcement and other emergency personnel were on hand to meet the escort on the Highway 95 bridge over Interstate 35, along with a large American flag being flown in his honor.
Visitation for Rollins will be held at Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch from 3-8 p.m. on Friday, July 26. His funeral will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 11 a.m. at Maranatha Assembly of God Church in Forest Lake.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Minnesota Fire Initiative, 3750 Wooddale Avenue S., St. Louis Park, MN 55416.
