Janice Elaine Larsen, 80, of Cambridge, passed away on Monday, Sept. 2, 2019, at St. Cloud Hospital.
She was born on May 26, 1939, in Hinckley, Minnesota, to Alfred and Doris (Trettin) Barto. She grew up in rural Hinckley, graduating from Hinckley High School in 1956. Afterwards, she moved to Minneapolis to live with her sister Claire and was employed at Mando Paper Company in the steno pool.
She married Axel “Bud” Larsen Jr. on July 12, 1958. This date was important for it was also Bud’s birthday, and she wanted to make sure he never forgot. They resided in St. Paul while Bud completed a four-year apprenticeship in optical work, working in the accounting of Northern Pacific Railway. Janice and Bud had two children: Larry, born in 1962, and Lisa, born in 1964. They moved to Hinckley in 1968 where Janice worked for an attorney in Pine City. She noted this job as the most rewarding and educational she had. In 1972 they moved to Cambridge where Bud joined Dr. G. T. Gibbons. During her time in Cambridge she held positions with attorney’s office, Memorial Hospital, Century 21 Moline Realty and the Isanti County Auditor’s Office as a cartographer. She and Bud opened and ran a shoe store for three years. Both were involved in the American Legion with Bud serving as Post Commander and Jan as Auxiliary President at the same time. They loved to golf, and together managed the clubhouse and grounds on weekends at Grandy 9 Golf Course. She loved stamp collecting, puzzles, and bead crafting. She was an excellent seamstress and gardener, and enjoyed playing cards with her friends and family. In her later years she loved to read and spend time with her grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Doris, and her husband Bud. Janice is survived by her sister Claire Schneider of Elk River; her children Larry (Donna) Larsen of Isanti and Lisa Larsen of Cambridge; five grandchildren: Tony (Melissa) Strandlund, Jennessa (Stephen) Vullo, Kara (Chris) Hepp, Chad (Sara) Larsen and Erika Strandlund. Janice cherished her 11 great-grandchildren: Austin, Dominic, Sean, Liam, Alyvia, Philip, Grayden, Michael, Axel, MacGuire and Henry.
