In their first game of the season, the Bombers held on for a close victory over the Pine City Dragons on Thursday, Aug. 29, in Pine City.
Runningback Luke Bendickson did a yeoman’s amount of the work for the Bombers, rushing for 169 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. Bendickson also caught the game-winning pass on a fourth down play with under three minutes left in the game to seal the victory for Braham.
The game was very even throughout as Braham only outgained the Dragons 316-282. Each team also forced several turnovers, with Braham fumbling three times and Pine City twice.
The young Bomber squad has gotten off to a rough start on the season, losing three matches and “tying” one.
Braham started their season at the Royalton Tournament on Friday, Aug. 23. There, the Bombers lost to Pine City and Pierz by 2-0 scores. Their “tie” came against Staples-Motley, as each team gained one set win. However, based on the tournament’s tie-break, which is total points in both sets, Braham again fell just short.
Royalton was also the opponent for Braham’s home season-opener on Tuesday, Aug. 27. There, the Bombers took it on the chin, losing 3-0 by scores of 25-14, 25-8, 25-4.
