Also looking to be a versatile addition to the varsity line-up this season is sophomore Carter Slothouber and a few others who are working to earn those spots.

Who/what are the keys to the team’s success this year? We have a class act group of guys on the team. They are passionate about the sport and work hard continually. Having these returning varsity athletes provide strong leadership for those new to varsity this year will be essential as we work to put out a line-up that can earn those key four team points.

What are some challenges the team faces this year? The snowy start to the season proves to be interesting as excitement to get on the courts is overflowing. Along with that, we lost a few varsity players to graduation, including our first singles player. It’s always challenging replacing graduated players, but it’s especially challenging at the top of the line-up.

What are your goals for the team’s season? We are looking to develop a competitive lineup from top to bottom, which comes from athletes giving total effort on the court while practicing good sportsmanship. Overall, the goal is to be better tennis players each day we step on those courts.

Bluejacket Girls Golf

Head coach:  Steve Hanson

Assistant coaches:  Jim Poppen, MS Coach Mark Rothbauer

What was last year’s regular-season record and conference record, and finish in the conference/section? Last season we finished 5th in the overall conference; 1st in the East Division. We placed 5th out of 12 teams at Sections.

Who are some of the players to look out for on varsity? MollyAnn Harvey was our top golfer last season and should lead us again this year. Jazzy Sibell made it to the second day of sections. Other letterwinners back to help us include Maria Knutson, Brooke Hogie and Autumn Volker. Seniors Meg Smith and Emily Ladd need to provide positive leadership to this team.

What are some challenges the team faces this year? It will be challenging this spring as we will have to battle the elements. It looks like a very late start for us which does not bode well for the girls to refine their short game. We also have many new players. I’m looking forward to seeing a couple of hockey players, Ashley Schintz and Riley Parnell who are playing golf for the first time.

Another challenge will be to replace three girls from our Section team of a year ago. One graduated, another is concentrating on school doing PSEO full-time, and a third decided to bring her talents to the track team.

What are your goals for the team’s season? Our goal every year is to improve with each match and to develop positive relationships with our teammates and our opponents.

Who is the opponent to watch for this year in the conference/section? St. Francis will lead the East side, although all the teams will be improved. Buffalo always does well in the West. Forest Lake should be top dog in the section.

Assistant coaches: Joel Lund, Kyle Groves

What was last year’s regular-season record and conference record, and finish in the conference/section? 5th Mississippi 8; 2nd Missisippi 8 East Division; 7th Section 7AAA

Who are some of the players to look out for on varsity? Jacob Nelson, Corey Greeninger, Cody LaValley, Brody Nelson

Who/what are the keys to the team’s success this year? Developing some consistency in the top six golfers and the ability for them to shoot low rounds on the same day. We lack a lot of experience this year.

What are some challenges the team faces this year? The challenges seem to be the same every season: consistent golf and the ability to score on the same day. If we can produce some consistency out of our top golfers we will have a successful season. We lost all but one golfer from last season, so experience will be an issue.

What are your goals for the team’s season? We hope to finish in the top half of the conference and to be competitive in the section by the end of the year. STMA and Chisago Lakes will definitely be the teams to beat in the M8, with Chisago Lakes the team to beat on the East side.  STMA, Forest Lake, Chisago Lakes and Elk River will be the top guns in Section 7AAA.

Who is the opponent to watch for this year in the conference/section? We are excited to golf with some nearby rivals in the Mississippi 8 East Division with Princeton, North Branch, Chisago Lakes and St. Francis.
