The Isanti Redbirds are preparing for another season of amateur baseball in Isanti.

“The ’Birds continue playing in the very tough Metro Minny League,” said team manager Steve Allen, who has been coaxed out of his brief retirement to lead the team for one more season. The league is made up of the following teams: Anoka, Andover, Blaine, Brooklyn Park, Centennial, Champlin, Coon Rapids, Forest Lake and Isanti.

Last season, the Redbirds finished with an 8-8 record in Metro Minny League play and a 16-13 overall record.

The ’Birds will have 29 games scheduled prior to their Sectional Tournament this year.  This includes 16 Metro Minny League games and 13 non-League games, including the team’s first-ever game against North Branch, who are entering their second year of competition.

On June 16, the team will host its Alumni Game. Former Redbird players are asked to contact Wade Reichmann (wade_reichmann@hotmail.com) for more information.

Besides their storied history of competition, the Redbirds are also known for their community service, including their annual entry in the Jubilee Days Outhouse Races.

For anyone interested in trying out for the Isanti Redbirds, contact Steve Allen at 763-286-6328 or email sallen958@gmail.com.

The first practice is scheduled for Saturday, April 14 at 2 p.m.

“Bring your boots and bibs ... wait, your gloves and cleats,” said Allen.
