Viking Athlete of the Week, February 27

From the coach:  Drew VanEerden had an incredible rivalry week, facing Chisago Lakes and Cambridge-Isanti. Between the two games he averaged 21.5ppg and was 10-16 from beyond the arc. Drew brings an edge to our team, and when he is going well, the rest of the players feed off of him. Off of the court, Drew spends a couple of hours every day mentoring kids at the middle school. As a senior, and with only two more regular games remaining...he will definitely be missed.

Favorite thing about sports: My favorite thing about sports is building relationships with my teammates and going out every game with them and competing for a chance to win.

Person who has influenced you:  My grandpa, he was a very good basketball player and held a couple records at the college he played for Calvin Christian. He is the reason I wear #22.

How do you prepare for a game or meet?:  I prepare by having fun throughout the day. I try joking with everyone at school and just overall keeping my spirits up. I play best when I’m having fun and smiling.

Highlight of athletic career: The highlight of my athletic career was when I dropped 31 points on Hermantown.

Future goals:  My future goals are to become a phy ed teacher and coach football, basketball and golf. I would love to stay in Minnesota but hopefully move south and west of the cities.
