Welch named first-ever ‘Minnesota Ms. Wrestling’

C-I’s Makayla Welch was named the inaugural “Ms. Minnesota - Wrestling.”

Cambridge-Isanti senior Makayla Welch was recently named the inaugural “Ms. Minnesota - Wrestling” by Minnesota Girls Wrestling.

Awards similar to this for other prep sports, such as “Mr/Ms. Hockey, Basketball,” etc. have been given out for many years; however, this is the first time such an award has been bestowed specifically on a female wrestler.

According to “The Guillotine” website, Welch is a five-time Minnesota Girls High School State Wrestling tournament champion. Welch also recently earned All-American status during the Girls Folkstyle Nationals. Welch has also signed a National Letter of Intent to continue wrestling for King University in Tennessee.

According to the website, Welch will receive a certificate to commemorate the achievement, along with a monetary gift.
